climate emergency

UN body the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has published its latest report, sounding another warning about the emergency that humans are still failing to tackle.

“Many of the changes observed in the climate are unprecedented in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years, and some of the changes already set in motion — such as continued sea level rise — are irreversible over hundreds to thousands of years,” it noted.

The report breaks down these predictions, but also offers encouragement, saying that it is still possible that “strong and sustained reductions in emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases would limit climate change”.

It’s another spur for all industries – music included – to redouble their efforts around the climate emergency. Music Declares Emergency, Julie’s Bicycle and Impala’s sustainability programme are some of the good places to start in our sector, and we hope to see more resources and activity in the weeks and months ahead.
