A new initiative from the Recording Academy, Berklee College of Music and Arizona State University is looking to gather more data on diversity within the US music industry. It’s a study that wants to survey “women and gender-expansive people” working in the business, with plans to publish the results in January 2022.
“Participation is mission-critical to gathering strong data to accelerate progress, and we encourage anyone working in music who identifies as a woman or as gender-expansive to take this survey and ask others in their music networks to do the same,” said Recording Academy co-president Valeisha Butterfield Jones.
The study will analyse progress made since the 2019 ‘Women in the US Music Industry: Obstacles and Opportunities’ report published by Berklee and Women in Music. The study will sit alongside other data-gathering initiatives, such as the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, which published its latest report in June this year.
