In our coverage of analytics firm Chartmetric’s ‘trigger cities‘ theory, we’ve looked at how some cities and countries can become powerful launchpads for artists.

One of those places is Indonesia, and one of its artists has just hit a significant milestone. Rich Brian has more than 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify – actually 10.5 million at the time of writing.

The NME noted that he is the first Indonesian artist to reach this level on the streaming service. “Holy shit,” was his apt response to the news on Twitter.

To put Rich Brian’s success into a global perspective, he’s currently the 457th most popular artist on Spotify, but rising fast. Playlist support on the service is coming from local playlists like Hot Hits Indonesia and the country’s Top 50 chart, but also on Spotify’s global playlists up to and including Today’s Top Hits.
