In August Sony Music chipped in to a $30m funding round for MakersPlace, one of the many NFT marketplaces that have emerged this year. There is more to the partnership than funding however: yesterday MakersPlace revealed plans for upcoming NFT drops with artists, around an NFT development partnership with Sony Music.
Shakira is one of the first artists involved, with a collection of NFTs based on “the fantastical world of Caloris, a place ruled by women in an intergalactic landscape as they grapple with the arrival of both friendly and unfriendly visitors” (if you’re imagining swords, chain-mail bikinis and jellyfish-style aliens at this point, you’d be right). Shakira has provided four ‘original audio pieces’ for the collection, which drops on 21 September.
Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello is also getting an NFTs collection inspired by Dungeons & Dragons on 24 September – again, including original music – while T-Pain is launching NFTs with a new album, physical giveaways and a “rare experience for the buyer of the edition of one” on the same date.
