Fans of artist Bonobo are abuzz after a teaser campaign was launched by label Ninja Tune for his new music. It kicked off on Monday this week (27 September) with cryptic billboards in 12 cities across the world chosen for their importance or potential for Bonobo’s audience.
The billboards had artwork images, track titles and a QR code, which led fans to a holding page on Bonobo’s website telling them to come back at 3pm yesterday (28 September). When they did, they found the artwork and location coordinates of the billboards with a teaser clip of a track called Rosewood – also released on Spotify and Apple Music as a 36-second clip credited to the pseudonym ‘Fragments’.
And yes, that is Bonobo: the clip is currently nestled at the top of his ‘Best of Bonobo’ and ‘Bonobo Essentials’ playlists on Spotify and Apple Music respectively.
Meanwhile, fans can click on the website’s coordinates to order a white-label copy of ‘Rosewood’. Cue speculation about whether this inventive campaign is leading towards a full album…
