The latest aspect of the games/music crossover is happening in the Middle East and North Africa, through a partnership between streaming service Anghami and the PUBG Mobile game. It will include redeemable codes for players of the latter to get up to a year’s free access to Anghami’s premium tier. There will also be PUBG-themed playlists and contests running on Anghami itself.
The event will run from 30 September to 7 October, and follows the two companies’ partnership earlier this year on a ‘Beat the Heat Summer Fun Fair’ series of events, including performances from artists.
PUBG Mobile is interesting for other reasons too: its global publisher is Tencent’s mobile gaming division, and earlier this year Tencent announced that the game had been downloaded more than 1bn times since its release in 2018.
The game was also used as part of K-Pop group Blackpink’s marketing campaign in September 2020.
