Fashion brand Gucci is 100 years old, and in that history it has been mentioned in 22,705 songs. How do we know? Because music/tech firm Musixmatch has been analysing its database of lyrics as part of a partnership with Gucci.
Now three of those lyrics are appearing on a new fashion line launched by the company, courtesy of licensing deals with their publishers.
The songs are ‘The R’ by Eric B & Rakim (“Music is mine Gucci seats reclined”); ‘You Got Good Taste’ by The Cramps (“This one’s dedicated to all you Gucci bag carriers out there it’s called You Got Good Taste”); and ‘F*ck Me Pumps’ by Amy Winehouse (“And the men notice you with your Gucci bag crew”).
(Radiohead must be furious that ‘Paranoid Android’ (“Ambition makes you look pretty ugly / Kicking and squealing Gucci little piggy”) didn’t make the cut…)
But yes, it’s an interesting partnership for Musixmatch, and a good example of the kind of lyrics-focused clothing or merch that rival LyricFind has also explored.
