Freshly returned from its unexpected six-hour downtime the other day, Instagram is shaking up the way it handles videos. Well, it’s merging two of its options, IGTV and ‘feed’ videos (the latter being regular video posts) into one new format called Instagram Video. It will get its own tab on people’s Instagram profiles too.
“We’re also introducing new features like trimming, filters and people and location tagging,” announced Instagram in its blog post. “Creators can continue to cross-post their videos through Stories and share via direct message… Video previews in feed will now be 60 seconds long, unless the video is eligible for ads — in which case, the preview will still be 15 seconds.”
Not all of Instagram videos will be merged into this however: its TikTok-like ‘Reels’ feature will remain separate to Instagram Video.
