Ariana Grande became the latest artist to perform in a set-piece event in the game Fortnite earlier this year. Now she is rejoining the game as a non-playing character.
“Ariana Grande has returned to the Island, but now in new gear ready to take down monsters. ‘Spacefarer Ariana Grande,’ the galaxy’s greatest monster hunter, is inviting you to join her hunt,” announced Epic Games as part of its Halloween content drop yesterday. People can’t play as Ariana herself, but they can complete a Monster Hunter questline in the game to unlock a special pickaxe item.
This is all part of Epic gradually ramping up the amount of ‘lore’ (storylines and mythology) in Fortnite, which is evolving far beyond its beginnings as a pure battle royale multiplayer game. It’s interesting to see an artist who’s partnered with Fortnite for a concert also being worked in to that lore: there’s clearly potential for more of this in the coming months.
