Music rights investment firm Exceleration Music is acquiring US independent label Bloodshot Records: one of its biggest deals since the company was founded by former Concord COO Glen Barros in late 2019.
The deal comes just a week after Bloodshot Records co-founder Rob Miller had announced that the label was shutting down, albeit while indicating potential for a sale by writing “whatever happens to the Bloodshot name moving forward, whatever form the company takes, and wherever the artists go…”
The news comes after a troubled few years for Bloodshot, which Exceleration’s press release described carefully as “more difficult times, leading to irreconcilable differences between the founders and uncertainty for the artists on the label”. Accusations about unpaid royalties were part of that, and Exceleration says it will be “working to ensure that all commitments to the Bloodshot artists are met” while also planning “a long-term campaign to revitalise the presence and availability of the Bloodshot catalogue both digitally and physically”.
