One of London’s most storied music venues, Koko (which originally opened in 1900 as The Camden Theatre), is reopening in the spring of 2022. The details are a useful snapshot of how venues might be gearing themselves up for a new era of hybrid physical concerts and livestreams.
Koko’s owners have spent £70m refitting the venue “with new high-spec broadcasting, recording and live streaming capabilities built into the very fabric of the Grade II listed theatre and its new four storey extension”.
A radio station is also part of the plans, as is a membership scheme. The venue will also have a ‘Koko Studio’ content development arm, and a partnership with independent production company Sister – co-founded by media-dynasty scion Elisabeth Murdoch.
