Apple and GarageBand, Spotify and Soundtrap… combinations of music services and creator tools / communities aren’t new, but we sense they’re going to be a more prominent part of the music ecosystem in the coming years. News that SoundCloud and Splice are working together is interesting in that context.
They’re launching a program called ‘Nova’ that is starting with a series of music-making contests. Splice will release 12 ‘Nova Artist Packs’ of samples and loops for its community of musicians to work with. Entrants to the contests will be judged by both companies, with the winners getting marketing and distribution support from SoundCloud “including $20k marketing spend”.
The announcement noted that this is just how the two companies’ partnership is starting, suggesting that there may be deeper collaborations to come.
