Black Artist Database is the new name for what used to be called Black Bandcamp: a crowdsourced database of Black-owned labels as well as artists and producers.
“By aggregating such a wealth of Black artists on a centralised platform, we highlight the boundless range of Black musicality and enable the Black voice to shine as a collective,” explain the founders.
“We hope to give the power back to the community far and wide through user-submitted artist profiles, removing a layer of industry gatekeeping.”
The site is funding itself with a £5-a-month Patreon campaign, and has recently launched a series of educational events – the next of which is online: ‘An Intro to Live’ on 23 November.
