UMG-owned distributor Ingrooves is another music company with its eye on global expansion. Today’s news is its entry into India, having hired Gaana executive Amit Sharma as its new country manager there.
Ingrooves has also announced its first two signings in India: a pair of actor/musician polymaths: Himesh Reshammiya and Yo Yo Honey Singh. Both are interesting because as well as releasing their own music, they own labels – Himesh Reshammiya Melodies and Yo Yo Honey Singh – which have been signing artists and doing good numbers on YouTube and streaming services.
“The independent music market in India is more vibrant and important than ever with an incredible amount of creativity and true artistry being developed here,” said Sharma in a statement.
