There are several interesting stories about TikTok today, so we’re bundling them up.

Start with The Information’s report that parent company ByteDance is on course to grow its revenues by 60% to around $63bn this year. Note, that’s a deceleration in growth after 2020’s rise of 111%, but still impressive.

Second, check Sensor Tower’s latest data dive into TikTok. Or rather around TikTok, for it focuses on the ecosystem of external apps that are capitalising on its growth. This includes apps for downloading (your own) TikTok videos to share elsewhere; apps providing analytics on followers and hashtags; rival short-video apps and so on. Sensor Tower says that there are now more than 900 of these apps, and they have collectively been downloaded more than 1.32bn times.

Finally, read ChartMetric’s analysis, in partnership with Popakademie, of TikTok’s impact on various music charts in Germany, from the official top 50 to the rankings of Spotify, Apple, Shazam and radio airplay. One key finding: “long lost catalog tracks are benefiting most from TikTok’s influence on the German charts”. Which is not a surprise, but it’s good to have some more hard data analysing how.
