Spotify is having a busy month, it’s fair to say. Yesterday it unveiled its latest ‘Spotify Singles: Holiday Collection’ with original songs and Christmas covers from artists including Ashnikko, Spoon, Nao and more. The streaming service also launched in six new countries: Iraq, Libya, Tajikistan, Venezuela, Republic of the Congo, and Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Meanwhile, Spotify is also expanding its recently-launched podcast subscriptions feature beyond its initial market of the US. The option to charge for podcasts rolled out to 33 more countries yesterday, with Spotify also extending the options for pricing. Podcasters can now charge between $0.49 and $150 a month (!) for their premium shows, with 20 different price points compared to the launch’s three.
And finally, while talking of podcasts, filmmaker J.J. Abrams is launching an audio offshoot of his Bad Robot production company “in collaboration with Spotify“, with plans to develop scripted and nonscripted shows.
