Partnerships with famous gaming characters for virtual concerts seems to be a trend in 2021. We’ve seen Post Malone team up with Pokémon for a concert in February, and more recently an Ed Sheeran performance beamed into the Pokémon Go mobile game.

Now electronic music artist Steve Aoki is preparing for a concert with Sonic the Hedgehog. He’ll be playing a 60-minute set of original tracks as well as “Aoki-remixed versions of fan-favourite Sonic tunes from the 16-bit Sega Genesis era to today” (that’s the Sega Mega Drive for gamers of a certain age outside North America).

The event is taking place on 30 November, and will be streamed live on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube and Twitch channels – complete with a backdrop of famous Sonic levels.

Here’s hoping Aoki doesn’t get carried away with fan fervour and race through his set to finish in half the time, before repeatedly jumping on the head of the nearest bald man.
