Apple hardware rumours are the gift that keeps on giving, at least to tech news websites’ traffic figures. Over the years we’ve had the Apple television, the Apple car and most recently the Apple AR and/or VR headset. The latter seems to be the most likely to arrive in the near future, with the latest rumour suggesting it could debut late in 2022.
This is courtesy of Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities who has a good reputation for furtling information out of Apple’s supply chain. “We predict that Apple’s AR headset to be launched in 4Q22 will be equipped with two processors. The higher-end processor will have similar computing power as the M1 for Mac, whereas the lower-end processor will be in charge of sensor-related computing,” he wrote in his latest note for clients, as reported by MacRumors.
So, an AR headset with the processing grunt of a Mac computer. Kuo’s note also suggested that the headset will double as a VR device, and even that in the long term, Apple may see this kind of device as (in MacRumors’ paraphrasing) ‘replacing the iPhone within ten years”.
