Shesaid·so, the global community of women and gender minorities in the music industry, has launched its annual Alternative Power 100 Music list. “Our list is full of inspirational change makers and future thinkers from across the world” is how Shesaid·so describes it, and it’s broken into category areas like artist & DJ, artist management, events, record labels, and so on.
The list is well worth investigating – as a snapshot of the people who work in the music industry, it is much more nuanced than most, and is, refreshingly, not filled with the same old faces. It’s been released in partnership with Patreon, which ties in neatly with the list’s focus on “The New Creative Economy and the new era that is ushering in the music industry.”
That focus makes the list even more timely and useful, as many people reevaluate how to connect with a rapidly-shifted industry, and how to assign value to the work created in it. Shesaid·so also uses Patreon for its own funding purposes: it launched on the platform in September 2020.
