We’re in the very early stages of understanding how music might be a part of the metaverse (including individual ‘microverses’ in the form of games and virtual worlds) in ways that may mirror or build on its physical-world role. Streaming service Audius is trying something interesting on this front, launching what it’s describing as a ‘radio tower’ in a new online game called DeFi Land.
What’s that? “A multi-chain agriculture-simulation game created to gamify Decentralized Finance” according to its creators. FarmVille On The Blockchain as we prefer to call it. It’s currently live in beta with a commercial launch imminent, and Audius will now be its supplier of in-game music via a set of genre-focused radio stations drawn from Audius’s catalogue of music.
This is part of Audius’s wider play for partnerships with games and virtual worlds via its open API, which currently provides access to more than 450k tracks.
