Back in February 2019, we wrote about Indian telco Vodafone Idea’s decision to shut down its Idea Music app, promising to “come up very soon with an offering that will provide the best-in-class music streaming services, through a partnership that we are in the final stages of closing”. 34 months later, the telco has announced a deal with Hungama Music.
This isn’t a new Vodafone Idea-branded music app, though: it’s a marketing partnership that will see the telco’s subscribers offered six months of Hungama’s premium tier for no extra cost, including access to 52 ‘live digital concerts’ through Vodafone’s Vi App. The two companies were already working together on video streaming, so music is a logical addition to the partnership.
