Around 430 songs reached the milestone of one billion TikTok video views this year: triple the total in 2020. That’s according to the social app’s ‘Year on TikTok 2021 Music Report’ which was published yesterday. “The most popular of these songs approach, and even exceed, 20 billion views on videos they soundtrack,” explained TikTok, adding that more than 175 songs that trended in its app this year also charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. “Twice as many as last year.”
As part of the report, TikTok published a chart of the top tracks on its service this year, topped by Australian rapper Masked Wolf’s ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ ahead of ‘Beggin’ by Italian rockers Måneskin, and ‘Adderall (Corvette Corvette)’ by Popp Hunna. The full report has plenty of individual charts covering tracks, artists and genres, including the news that Russia’s famous ‘Tok machine – Boney M’s ‘Rasputin’ – was the top ‘classic’ track on the app in the US.
