NFTs circuit board

Primary Wave Music and NFTs firm OneOf have a big figure to shout about from their recent auction of an NFT including an unreleased demo by Whitney Houston.

The NFT sold for $999,999, and the winner will have “personal access” to the recording from their ‘vault’ on OneOf’s platform. A meaningful moment, or just a random crypto-multi-millionaire splashing their (non-fiat) cash? Time will tell.

Meanwhile, music NFTs startup Sound, whose launch we covered earlier this month, has raised a $5m seed funding round led by VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, with artist 21 Savage among the other investors.

“The problems that we want to solve are: Can we get music heard and can we get artists paid?” CEO David Greenstein told TechCrunch.

Finally, two of the artists who’ve been keenest to explore NFTs, Richie ‘Plastikman’ Hawtin and Joel ‘deadmau5’ Zimmerman, have revealed their latest investment.

They have joined a funding round for Moda DAO, one of the emerging crop of ‘Web3’ startups exploring NFTs and the metaverse with a musical twist. “It will enable users to stream NFT audio files from every leading NFT platform and chain with a simple layer of usability,” Hawtin told Resident Advisor.
