Anghami and Amazon Music could be future rivals in the Middle East and North Africa, if Amazon launches its streaming services in the region. Right now, though, they are partners.

Last September Anghami launched a subscription deal for Amazon Prime members in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and now it is stepping up its efforts to use Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. Anghami is launching its Alexa skills in both English and Arabian-language versions in those two countries, enabling owners of Alexa-powered devices to play music, podcasts and religious content from Anghami.

It’s not unusual for other streaming services to integrate with Alexa, of course, but the Anghami/Amazon partnership is worth watching. The news comes ahead of Anghami’s plans to go public via a ‘SPAC’ merger, which it expects to complete in the first quarter of this year.
