Germany is next up in the 2021 Music Consumption Stats Merry-Go-Round, with year-end figures from industry body BVMI. It reported yesterday that more than 165bn audio music streams were measured in Germany last year, up by 19.6% from 2020’s figure of 138bn.
The report was a collaboration with research firm GfK Entertainment, which noted record streams on both Christmas Eve (716m) and New Year’s Eve (674m). The figures include free and paid streams from audio services, but not from YouTube… yet.
“YouTube Music is expected to start in the first quarter of 2022 and then also retrospectively for 2021,” explained BVMI in its announcement.
Germany is one of the countries using the IFPI’s recently-announced framework for including YouTube streams in music charts.
