In December, musician Tim Burgess started a public conversation about the commission on merch sales taken by some live venues, noting that at worst it can be a 25% cut. That conversation is now leading to action on the part of the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC).

This morning it has launched a ‘100% Venues’ directory listing venues that do not charge any commission at all on merch sales at gigs. There is also a form for venues to submit themselves to the database.

“The relationship between artists and venues represents one of the most important partnerships in the music ecosystem. These 100% Venues are leading the way, enabling artists to take home 100% of merchandise revenue,” said CEO David Martin.

“This makes selling merchandise at gigs worthwhile for artists, creating a fairer and more sustainable touring circuit, particularly for grassroots and emerging talent.”
