Joe Rogan

In the past, when Neil Young has criticised streaming services it’s usually been on the ground of audio quality. However, this week he’s fed up with Spotify’s role in enabling podcaster Joe Rogan to spread Covid-19 misinformation through his show.

In an open letter to his manager and label, Young said he wanted his music taken down from Spotify in protest. “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” wrote Young.

“Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy. I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform … They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”

Spotify has yet to comment: the risk for the company is that other artists follow Young’s lead.
