Social media consultant Matt Navarra has been poking around in TikTok’s innards to uncover some new features that may be coming soon (or may simply be tests).

User avatars along the lines of Apple’s ‘Memoji’ that use the camera to mirror your facial expressions are one of them, along with group chat, livestream screen-sharing and the already-reported creator subscriptions.

However, there’s also a reference in the code to ‘Audio Live’ streams, which Navarra interpreted as a Clubhouse-like audio-only feature. TikTok is a little late to the live audio party, with Facebook, Twitter, Spotify and other companies already having piled in.

It will be interesting to see where it takes this idea for its youthful user-base though (and what kind of safety measures it puts in place to protect the most youthful).
