By the end of 2021 – a year in which it stepped up its music activities considerably – gaming platform Roblox had nearly 50 million daily active users. Now the company has published some metrics on that last year, including some figures from the most popular games and experiences on its service.
The most popular game was Brookhaven, which Roblox said generated more than 12.2bn ‘visits’ in 2021, up from 2bn the previous year. However, Brookhaven – a game where people hang out in a city, decorating houses and driving cars – was only the third top-grossing game on Roblox last year, behind Adopt Me and Welcome to Bloxburg.
Roblox also said that experiences from Twenty One Pilots and KSI were among its top five brand partner ‘events that engaged over 30% of visitors in the 17+ age group’ in 2021, behind only Gucci Garden for popularity.
Other stats: Roblox users acquired (which includes ‘got for free’ as well as ‘bought’) more than 5.8bn virtual items last year; the median Roblox user played 40 experiences in 2021; and the number of women and girls using the Roblox Studio software to make games grew by 353% year-on-year.
