Ristband is the startup formerly known as Overview Ark. It rebranded last year while working on its plans for a ‘multiplayer music metaverse’ platform. Now there’s news on when we’ll get to see it: on 14 March, when it is unveiled at SXSW in Austin.

The event will include the US premiere of a VR concert by artist Miro Shot, whose frontman Roman Rappak is also the startup’s CEO. The group have been experimenting with AR, VR and mixed-reality concerts for some time: he spoke about it at one of the BPI’s Insight Session events last year, which we covered in a report.

The SXSW event will also feature NFT artworks, DJ sets, AI-generative music and a panel digging into music, the metaverse and web3.

In related news, Ristband has secured an ‘Epic MegaGrant’ from Fortnite publisher Epic Games, which will help it build out its plans for its metaverse, which other artists – particularly independent acts – will be able to use. “There is no platform for the hundreds of thousands of independent artists to perform in a compelling way in virtual worlds,” said co-founder Anne McKinnon.
