“Tired of Spotify? Come on over to Weezify,” tweeted Rivers Cuomo, the frontman of veteran rock band Weezer, yesterday.
This particular alternative streaming service has a very specific focus however.
“A Spotify-like player for all of Rivers Cuomo’s demos (1975-2017). Close to 3500 demos. Follow curated playlists. Create playlists of your favorites,” as its app store listing puts it.
“I made this app myself. It took me all of 2021 to make. I hope you enjoy it,” added Cuomo.
Based on the 4.9 stars out-of-five average from the first 65 user reviews on Apple’s App Store, fans are doing just that (it’s also on Android).
The fact that so many demos are available comes as no surprise: in November 2020, Cuomo put 2,441 of them up for sale across a series of $9 download bundles from his own website. Those demo packs are part of Weezify now.
