It’s all the rage to turn artists into avatars for virtual concerts, but Snapchat is holding an event where the fans’ avatars will also play a key part. The concert takes place tomorrow (3 February) and will feature Jennifer Lopez and Maluma, as part of the promotional campaign for their new film ‘Marry Me’.
It won’t be streamed live on Snapchat itself, but on a separate website where people can “sign in with Snapchat to reserve a spot for your Bitmoji avatar to participate in the interactive concert and get a chance to visually appear”.
Meanwhile, Roblox has announced plans for its next virtual music event: a “first-of-its-kind DJ party” helmed by David Guetta, as part of its ongoing partnership with Warner Music Group. It happens this Friday (4 February) in a Roblox experience designed by Wonder Works Studio – the developer that worked on last year’s Insomniac World Party festival Roblox project. Guetta will play a DJ set while visitors run around an obstacle course, take part in dance battles, and watch a Q&A with Guetta. Virtual merch will also be on sale.
