Meta has been holding VR music events for a while now, but we sense a stepping up of its ambitions. Witness the announcement that Foo Fighters are playing a concert within Meta’s Horizon Venues world on 13 February, filmed specifically for VR with the promise that it “shows the surreal convergence of the physical and virtual”. It’s a tie-in to this weekend’s Super Bowl, with American football-themed games, experiences and avatar outfits around the concert. However, the performance will also be streamed in 2D on Facebook and Instagram.

In separate news, Roblox is the latest digital service to partner with this year’s Brit Awards, which take place later today. The newly-opened ‘VIP Party’ world will host highlights of the awards tomorrow, with a virtual performance by artist PinkPantheress later this week. The Brits worked with developer Dubit on the experience, which will include scavenger hunts, official merch and artist meet’n’greets.
