Roblox averaged 54.7 million daily active users in January 2022

It’s ever-more engaged with the music industry, but how is games firm Roblox’s core business doing? Yesterday its latest financial results revealed that it averaged 49.5 million daily active users in the final quarter of 2021, up 33% year-on-year.

However, these figures are already outdated: Roblox also published some metrics for January 2022, claiming 54.7 million daily active users that month. Those people spent 4.2bn hours on Roblox in January: an average of 2.5 hours a day for each daily active user (although the 4.2bn hours figure covers the entire Roblox community).

Back to the financials: Roblox’s revenues for 2021 as a whole were $1.9bn, up 108% year-on-year, while its average spending per daily active user for the year was $59.85. All good? Well, the markets were not impressed: Roblox’s Q4 net loss of $143.3m was bigger than analysts had expected, while its $770.1m of bookings – a metric covering player spending – were slightly below their predictions. Cue an 11% drop in Roblox’s share price in after-hours trading.
