Donda Stem Player

How are fans responding to Kanye West’s plans to only release his new album ‘Donda 2’ on his own Stem Player device? Well, a fair few of them are buying one. A press release sent out on behalf of West said that the player “has netted more than $2 million in revenue since the announcement on Thursday, February 17th”.

The Stem Player costs $200, so that would represent around 10k sales of the device. Or, to use a relevant comparison: 0.02% of his 47.1 million listeners on Spotify. West is certainly making a big bet on the player though: the press release was headlined “Ye passes $100 million deal with Apple to release Donda 2 on Stem Player”, although Apple has made (and is unlikely to make) any public statements on such an offer.

West has also announced plans for a ‘Donda 2 Performance Experience’ on 22 February in Miami, with tickets currently starting at $95 each.
