Artists signing exclusive deals with DSPs for their music has died out as a trend in the west, but could these agreements still play a role in the Middle Eastern streaming economy? Anghami has made an interesting move this week, signing an exclusive deal with Egyptian star Amr Diab that includes his catalogue, as well as his Nay Label and his future audio and video releases.

Diab is already the most popular artist on Anghami according to the DSP, with more than 1bn streams on its platform.

“I chose Anghami because it’s a local platform that has made it internationally and is proudly showcasing Arab culture to the world. I share Anghami’s vision in developing strong local talent and making their voice heard globally,” said Diab.

At the time of writing, Diab’s catalogue is still available on other streaming services internationally: for example he has more than 850,000 monthly listeners on Spotify at the time of writing.
