The third in the IFPI’s trio of big global awards for 2021 was announced yesterday, and it was won by Adele. ’30’ was the biggest album of 2021 by the music body’s calculations, based on worldwide streams and sales.

Unlike its digital singles chart, there were no list of figures accompanying the top albums list, although the IFPI did note that ’30’ shifted more than 5m ‘physical album equivalent units’ in 2021 – particularly impressive as it was only released in November.

Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd also had albums in the top five. Dua Lipa, The Kid Laroi, Abba, Morgan Wallen and Doja Cat rounded out the top 10.
