While Spotify and other digital services mull their options in Russia, the music-streaming firm is taking action in another area: its artist fundraising picks feature.
Spotify has been explaining to artists how they can use the feature to raise donations for relief charities working in Ukraine and with refugees in neighbouring countries. It is pointing them towards partner GoFundMe’s Ukraine hub, where they can find charities and set them as the fundraising pick on their Spotify profiles.
The pick feature was launched in April 2020 as part of Spotify’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on artists’ incomes, offering them a way to raise money directly from fans. However, from the start the pick feature has also enabled artists to raise money for charities instead.
