lofi girl

Lofi Girl is the lo-fi hip-hop brand formerly known as ChilledCow, having rebranded in March 2021 in homage to the anime girl in its video streams. Now it is celebrating a big milestone: 10 million subscribers to its YouTube channel.

How is it celebrating? By giving away scholarships that will pay for a year’s university tuition fees for 10 students. It’s a neat tie-in to one of the key reasons people come to Lofi Girl’s channel and playlists: to find music to get them in the zone for studying.

It’s been a story of growth so far for the brand. In February 2020 ChilledCow had 4.4 million YouTube subscribers, and that grew to nearly eight million by March 2021, when it rebranded. Now it has 10.1 million.

It’s not just a YouTube thing though: Lofi Girl’s flagship Spotify playlist now has more than 6.4 million followers – up from 5.2 million a year ago.
