Apple’s Shazam app has long been used to discover music, but now it wants to help people discover concerts too. A deal with Bandsintown will bring live data into the app, so that people tagging tracks will also see upcoming concerts from those artists and links to buy tickets.
It’s a big deal for Bandsintown, since Shazam has 225 million monthly active users tagging more than 1bn songs a month at the moment. Artists will be able to pipe their tour details into Shazam from the Bandsintown for Artists portal, with listings also appearing on their artist pages in Shazam’s app and website. The new concert discovery features are launching globally.
