ICE has hired Govinda Fichtner as its CTO. Previously at web hosting and cloud technology firm IONOS, he joins the processing hub as it reaches the milestone of €2.3bn in payouts to rightsholders.

In fact ICE, in common with processing hubs and collecting societies worldwide, continues to experience sharp growth in its workload in the streaming era.

In 2021, it says that it processed 144 terabytes of data from the 69 services it has licensed since launch, with that data load up 93% year-on-year. That was based on processing more than 27tn (trillion) streams and downloads.

Fichtner’s job will be to take charge of ICE’s work in continuing to futureproof its systems as the growth in music usages – and the resulting data – only continues.
