The boundaries between the industry’s different siloes – labels, publishers, management – have always been fluid in the independent sector. The latest company to venture beyond its original focus is Partisan Records, which is launching a publishing division called Left Music.
Partisan said the new arm will operate as a standalone publishing company, albeit “working in tandem with and embodying the same collective values as Partisan Records”.
Left Music is also launching with a major partnership: Sony Music Publishing UK will be providing administration services in a global agreement, with Left Music boss Craig Michie describing it as “an incredible sibling” for the new company.
Partisan CEO Tim Putnam said that the label had been looking to start a publishing arm for some time. “Left serves Left, and Partisan serves Partisan, working in tandem to serve the writers / artists first and foremost,” he said.
