It will soon be the 50th anniversary of the release of Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ album, and the marketing efforts around the anniversary include a contest on freelance marketplace Fiverr.
It’s based on a new remix of Gaye’s ‘Save the Children’ track by producer SaLaAM ReMi. Visual artists on Fiverr are being asked to listen to the track then “illustrate a 2D child character based on their interpretation of the song… from traditional cartoons to abstract characters”.
Five winners of the contest will have their characters featured in an animated music video for the track later this spring. Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) is behind the contest, which is open to artists in the US only.
For the winners, this is about promo rather than payment: “All winners who have their illustration chosen for the video, will be credited at the end of the video itself and will also be showcased on Fiverr’s contest landing page with links back to their Fiverr profiles,” explains the contest’s FAQ page.
