When we talk about personalisation in the music world, we tend to think about playlists and music recommendations. However, Songfinch is a company exploring another meaning: customised songs, where people can pay $199 to have a song created for birthdays, weddings, proposals, anniversaries and other occasions.
A good business? Songfinch says it has created nearly 100k of these songs over its lifetime, with a roster of more than 1,200 musicians creating that music – and generating more than $5m of payouts in the process. Now Songfinch is getting its own payout from investors: a $5m seed funding round led by VC firm Corazon Capital.
There are some starry individual backers too: Quincy Jones, The Weeknd and Doja Cat are among the strategic investors in the round, along with Atlantic Records boss Craig Kallman. “The expanse of Songfinch stretches far beyond gifting, and we’re excited to deliver on that in the months and years to come,” said CEO John Williamson, of the company’s ambitions.
