Epic Games already has one metaverse that’s hugely popular with children: Fortnite. However, it’s working on something else with a high-profile partner: Lego.
The two companies are teaming up to “build an immersive, creatively inspiring and engaging digital experience for kids of all ages to enjoy together”.
That’s according to an announcement that is relatively scarce on details, beyond promising to give children “access to tools that will empower them to become confident creators and deliver amazing play opportunities in a safe and positive space”.
They have not said when they plan to launch, nor have they shown any screenshots or video of the new metaverse.
Could music play a part in it? Epic Games’s history in music is well known, from Fortnite concerts to its acquisitions of Harmonix and Bandcamp.
Meanwhile, Lego worked with Universal Music Group on 2021 app Vidiyo, which helped children create their own music videos. Perhaps some iteration of that could be part of the new metaverse…
