It has been a long wait for the second album by Black Star, the superduo consisting of Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and Talib Kweli. Their debut came out in September 1998, and now their sophomore effort ‘No Fear of Time’ will be released on 3 May 2022.
However, there will only be one place fans can hear the new record from that day, and it’s not a music streaming service.
Black Star have signed an exclusive deal with Luminary, the subscription-based podcasts service. New episodes of its ‘The Midnight Miracle’ podcast – which Bey and Kweli co-host with comedian Dave Chappelle – focusing on the album will also be released around the launch.
Luminary’s announcement says that it will be “the exclusive home to No Fear of Time beginning May 3”, although it’s unclear how long that exclusivity period lasts, and thus how soon (or even if) the album will be available on music services too.
