In October, European indie body Impala announced plans to build a carbon calculator tool for independent labels in partnership with charity Julie’s Bicycle. This morning, they launched it for Impala’s members.
It’s based on the charity’s existing ‘creative green tools’ but has been customised for independent labels, including a helpdesk to get them up and running with carbon accounting. The two organisations will hold a webinar on 20 April to show members how to start using it.
“Having a custom-made calculator and a standardised framework for the recorded sector is a big step towards taking full responsibility,” said Julie’s Bicycle CEO Alison Tickell.
Talking of online webinars, 19 April sees a panel organised by Rough Trade and Music Declares Emergency that is open to all. ‘Dirty Money – Taking your cash out of the Climate Crisis‘ is aimed at artists, labels, managers, agents and fans alike, and will focus on how to “spend, save or invest your money” in the most climate-friendly ways.
