We’ve already reported on YouTube and Snapchat’s digital plans for the 2022 Coachella festival, whose first weekend has just finished. There was more online fun over that weekend however.
Epic Games worked with Coachella to launch a drop of festival items in Fortnite, including outfits, back bling and pickaxes.
Meanwhile, a selection of artists playing Coachella appeared on Fortnite’s in-game Icon Radio station over the weekend. A second virtual items drop is set for this Thursday (21 April) ahead of the festival’s second weekend.
This wasn’t the only Epic Games x Coachella partnership however. Electronic star Flume streamed a set in augmented reality this weekend, with an experience built using Epic’s Unreal Engine tools to overlay 3D effects on the 2D livestream.
This was all broadcast on YouTube’s Coachella stream, with many cooks involved: Coachella and Epic Games, but also Flume’s management company Future Classic; creative agency &Pull; and digital production firms Six Degrees and All Of It Now.
