There’s another new artificial-intelligence music startup on the block: Los Angeles-based Soundful. It has just raised a $3.8m round of seed funding for its AI-powered music creation system, which it’s making available to human musicians and social media influencers alike.
For the former, it’s pitched as a tool to create “ideas or hooks and beats” to work with, while for the latter it’s a way to create royalty-free (and takedown-proof) music to use in their videos.
Soundful said that executives from Universal Music Group, Beatport, Disney and Microsoft are among the investors in its seed round.
Currently in invite-only mode, Soundful is planning to offer a free tier as well as ‘premium’ and ‘enterprise’ subscriptions – a model following that used in the past by production-focused AI music startups like Jukedeck and Amper Music.
