‘First on SoundCloud’ isn’t just the name of SoundCloud’s emerging-artist picks program: it’s core to the way the streaming service brands itself. SoundCloud wants to hang on to its reputation for being a platform where many new artists get their first breakthrough. Anyway, that means the launch of the annual program is a big deal for the company.
Yesterday it unveiled the nine artists who it will be championing this year: Ekkstacy, Isabella Lovestory, Kelow LaTesha, KenTheMan, Nezi Momodu, Pote Baby, riela, Rosemarie, and Titus.
The year-long program will see SoundCloud filming interviews and behind-the-scenes video; creating an original docuseries for each artist; providing funding for “original creative projects”; and putting on a special event at some stage featuring all nine.
It all kicks off with a YouTube intro video and a SoundCloud playlist.
